Lynn Prejean

Owner/Director

At eight years old, Lynn began taking dance classes from Miss Machita at BREC Park. Lynn’s family moved out of state, but she always dreamed of dancing with Miss Machita. Years later, she met her future husband, who was from Brusly, and discovered that there was a “Machita & Co., Inc.” dance school nearby. The dance teacher that made such an impact in her life was still teaching dance.

Lynn’s three daughters also trained with that same sweet, loving, talented dance teacher.  They began dancing at Machita & Co., Inc. at three years old, and each joined the Machita & Co. Competition Team at the age of ten. Because of their commitment to dance, Lynn was very involved “behind the scenes” in the business throughout the years.

She has worked in the medical field at the Baton Rouge General Hospital for thirty three years, with twenty two of those years as a Registered Nurse in Intensive Care. Nursing is her passion and love, but witnessing dance positively impact children’s lives has always been very close to her heart. As Studio Owner/Director, Lynn continues working as an RN and directs the studio.

Lynn feels very blessed to be in partnership at Machita Dance Company with her husband, Brian Prejean along with Blaine and Tiffany Chiasson. Together they continue to make many improvements to the facility and the program.

Her students have received many scholarships, awards and titles to leading workshops and conventions across the country. Several have been members of the Tremaine National Performance Company under the direction of Miss Keri LaGrand and Mr. Joe Tremaine. Some of her students were Junior Company Members of LA Dance Magic under the direction of Jackie Sleight. Her students have continued training at some of the best universities in the country, can be seen performing across the country and in various television commercials. This year, one of her students is performing on Derek Hough’s 2019 Tour! Lynn is also very proud that her teachers continue their dance education by attending prestigious workshops and conventions.

Lynn has been married to Brian Prejean for 30 years. They have three beautiful daughters, Jordan, Jillian and Jade, who have all graduated from LSU. Jordan is a certified Barre 3 instructor, and teaches classes at Barre 3 located in Baton Rouge, LA. Jillian has taught for five years as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at St. James Episcopal Day School, and is now in her fourth year of marriage to Dexter Courville. Their granddaughter, Kaitlee, just turned one and brings so much joy to the Prejean family! Jade is in her 3rd year as the Dance Director at Saint Joseph’s Academy and just this year started “The Red Steppers,” the first ever competitive dance team at SJA! Her and her husband, Kurt McCune recently celebrated their first anniversary! All three daughters will remain involved in the studio business.

Together, the Prejeans and Chaissons are very excited to continue the legacy of Miss Machita Eyre. It is our goal to provide a facility where dancers and tumblers train while developing self-confidence, self-discipline and feel happy, loved, and comfortable at Machita Dance Company.
